Blue Leadership
Empowering Ocean Leaders for a 360° Impact
Now is the time to take on the significant challenges facing our oceans with confidence, power, and a network of incredible people creating positive impact for oceans and communities. This is the essence of Blue Leadership: Inspiring the best in yourself so that you can empower your team, organization, and networks, ultimately unlocking the vital solutions we need.
We believe that sustainable transformation starts within and flourishes through practice. To navigate today’s challenges, we need more than just new strategies; we require entirely new mindsets, routines, and skills that allow us to stay present, clear, and effective in our actions. That’s why, Blue Leadership intertwine ocean action with personal growth and resilience, fosters a collaborative team culture, and promotes forward-thinking practices – for a 360° impact.

We cannot change the wind, but we can set sails differently
Blue Leadership is a transformative leadership programme and toolbox for ocean change agents braving the stormy seas across non-profit, government, and business sectors, eager to accelerate positive transformation for our oceans and communities.
The Blue Leadership Learning Journey is a tailored immersive experience designed to ignite your potential. It consists of at least one in-person retreat, regular interactive, online sessions to connect with like-minded peers (including an alumni network), and mentorship tailored to you. The Blue Leadership Journey delivers transformative change through a practical curriculum centred on a holistic learning approach incorporating head, hand and heart across three key themes: Leading Self, Leading Others, and Leading System Change.
Five years of building the capacity of courageous ocean leaders
Blue Leadership was developed with generous support of GIZ in particular, as well as Conservation International, GRID-Arendal, MarViva, IUCN, CPPS, SIDA, UNEP, and WIOMSA. Since 2021, more than 80 ocean leaders from about 70 organisations and 52 countries have joined the Blue Leadership Journey and formed collaborative networks across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. Blue Leadership alumni are shaping policy, leading movements, and transforming communities – from local councils to international organisations. Their leadership is transforming ocean action across the planet, showing what’s possible when collaborative leadership takes the lead.
Come aboard!
Step into your own Blue Leadership Journey and be part of a community transforming how we care for the oceans and each other. Or invite your team to take part – when more leaders experience the Blue Leadership Journey’s transformative approach, the impact multiplies across organisations, movements, and communities.
The Blue Leadership Journey is available on demand, allowing us to tailor the programme to your unique context and needs for a truly fitting learning experience. We also offer coaching and organizational development through the Blue Leadership approach, boosting effectiveness, fostering joy, and achieving a holistic 360° impact.
